Staying at Common Ground offers a vacation with one's own family, but also a chance to make new friends. This includes remembering Rachel Bissex, former music director and a beloved member of the camp community who died in 2005. Amazing place and amazing staff. They answered all of our questions promptly, and were always available when we wanted to come down for more tours of the site. Even though it was raining on our wedding day, we could not have asked for a better place to get married. Second important point: since we housed & fed nearly all of our guests on campus all weekend, we charged room/board, which made this venue financially achievable -- and, FAR less expensive than regular hotel/food for our guests! We love their green philosophy, and although it was quite cold with no electricity or heat for the people in the cabins, hardly anyone complained! The staff was so wonderful and the grounds were a fantastic place for family and friends of all ages to get the chance to visit together. A popular option is the Common Room in the Eco-Lodge, complete with a woodstove, solar-heated floors, tables and chairs, comfortable couches, and a homestyle kitchen. I would definitely choose to have my wedding on Common Ground again. Others started as youngsters catching bugs in our wetlands and now are studying environmental science in college. We had the flexibility and support in designing a weekend unique to us as a couple, and many guests still mention how memorable the venue was and wish to return for another weekend! This summer's camps runs July 19-Aug. 15. The Center hosts an average of 12 weddings per year, and summer dates book over a year in advance.
