The pond was some 20 meters in diameter. A home at 222 West Kelly Park Road in Apopka is being swallowed by a sinkhole on Tuesday, Sept. 19, 2017, caused by Hurricane Irma. This can happen for a number of reasons, including the erosion of rock beneath the land surface as groundwater passes through it, leaving a void which the surface collapses into.
